"Do you work at a bakery, Haizakura?"
My simple question was answered with confusion.
"You're selling anpan, so I wondered...."
Apparently, the situation was more complicated than I'd guessed.
I sat up and listened more closely.
Had something happened to her...?
She looked at me seriously.
"But then you accidentally ate all of the bread?"
"Um... You accidentally dropped all of the bread?"
"You accidentally dropped the money?"
She jumped.
Apparently, that was the answer.
"I see, so then you took on a part time job to earn the money for the bread."
"Well then it was a great success. We should end our break."
"That now you need to go get your bread as payment."
We both stood up.
We followed the cherry tree-lined street uphill a short way.
And there near the top of the hill was a small bakery.
Haizakura was standing outside the bakery sounding conflicted.
"You worked hard so I gave you some extra."
The older woman who ran the bakery replied in a cheerful voice.
She was holding two bags with two loaves of bread in each.
Each of the loaves would normally sell for 3 kin each, so she was being given 12 kin of bread in total.
"Just accept them. Here, I'll carry half."
"I'm curious about the cafe where you work, Haizakura. Could you take me there?"
